There, now that we've got Matt’s amazing credits out of the way, let’s talk about how Matt’s voice is so calming that you can feel your stress melt away while talking to him. Oh, you’ve never heard Matt Kindt speak? Well, you are in for a treat.
Sometimes, when the guest sends over a topic, there is a slight panic when one doesn’t know anything about said topic. It’s true. We undergo a research period, during which we realize that the panic is unwarranted. And that’s because it’s so damn fun! We get to watch movies and documentaries, listen to music, and be exposed to things that are so cool that we never would have known about otherwise. Matt’s topic is one of those things.
Full disclosure: We don’t even mention Keanu Reeves. So, if you’re going to tune in for that part, you will be disappointed. But you should still listen because what we do talk about is tangentially related to one of Matt’s upcoming projects and also lets us in on some of the things that have influenced his past projects. As with all of our guests, some real a-ha moments happen!
It’s no secret that Matt is known for his crime, spy, and action books. Mind Mgmt, Dept. H and BRZRKR fit those categories and are currently set up in Hollywood for adaptations. As you know from the first paragraph, his comics titles aren’t all abbreviations. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that BRZRKR is one of the biggest comic debuts in decades, selling roughly 615,000 copies.
Matt has an enviable publishing career, having been published at BOOM!, Dark Horse, DC/Vertigo, First Second, Image, Marvel, Oni Press, Top Shelf, and Valiant. He has his own imprint, FLUX HOUSE, under which he also publishes his webcomic, Ne'er Do Well. You can find it on his Patreon. Speaking with Matt about his superfandom was interesting, enlightening, and a ton of fun. His personality makes him easy to talk to, and even if you know nothing about his subject, you’ll want to dive into it after listening to him describe how he got into it and how it’s influenced him in unexpected ways.
