We’ve got exciting things coming up, so we want to thank our subscribers for joining us! Following our WonderCon soft launch, we’re heading into our first official recording with Marc Guggenheim. Marc is excited to talk about his Superfan topic, and we’re excited, too!
But that’s not all! In about five weeks, we’ll also be headed to Comic Con Revolution in Ontario, CA, with two more amazing guests who will knock your socks off. Stay tuned for more information on that, which is coming soon.
As cohosts of this podcast, we do not talk about ourselves; we focus purely on the guests! But you may be wondering: What are we superfans of? We’ll tackle these one by one! Let’s start with Kris Simon.
If you know Kris, you already know she is a decades-long burger-lover. She has posted her own super-secret burger recipe on her own Substack, but for the first time ever, she is going to let you in on something that only a few know about: her secret Burger Blog on Instagram. It’s called The Burger Beat (because nothing beats a good burger). Started during the pandemic as a hobby, just something fun to pass the time, the posts have definitely slowed down due to Kris’s busy schedule. But there’s one thing that hasn’t changed, and that’s her list of the Top Three Burgers she’s ever had. These are burgers rated 5 “burger stars” out of 5. Spoiler: If you look through the Insta, you’ll see that a burger made at “Casa de Gossett” only received three burger stars! But that was because she forgot to bring the buns. Without further ado:
Burger 3:
The Electric Owl in Hollywood, CA: The Double Smash Burger with ranch tater tots and an Old Fashioned made with a cookie-infused whiskey called the Caboose. This restaurant on Sunset Blvd resembles a train car, an homage to the location it was built on, a train station called Gardner’s Junction, which closed in 1954. Nighttime train conductors were called “electric owls.”
Burger 2:
Au Cheval in Chicago, IL: The simple “Signature Cheeseburger” comes in a single or double, and you can add an egg or bacon. That’s it. This place does not take reservations, and you should probably expect to wait at least an hour, if not more. The name references a French term that is used for when you put a fried, runny egg on top of a dish. They also serve Malört, a Chicago rite-of-passage beverage that is not good but must be tried at least once.
Burger 1:
Father’s Office in Culver City, CA: The famous “Office Burger” with bacon-onion spread and arugula, topped with blue cheese and served on a baguette. This burger blows the mind because, one, Kris does not like blue cheese. And two, they do not allow any changes to be made to the burger, aside from how you like it cooked. Many have tried to imitate this burger (Umami Burger, for one) and have failed. Esquire magazine once declared this burger “one of the best burgers in the world.” Pairing it with a Belgian Tripel is recommended.
There you have it. A Superfan topic from one of the hosts! We’ll continue with the next host so you can get a little peek into who you’re listening to on this podcast. If you have a favorite burger, please don’t hesitate to comment and let Kris know what she’s missing out on!
